What it is/what you do with it: an interactive version of the Berenstain Bears book by Stan and Jan Berenstain (about 22 pages long).

Three ways of reading the book: listen to the narration and follow the text, read the story yourself and auto play (automatic narration and turning pages). Touch the characters and objects in pages and their name will be displayed and read out.

What we liked: the story. Original artwork. Excellent reading options (picture-word associations, touch the word to have it read out, touch and hold to repeat the paragraph). Professional narration. Sounds and sound backgrounds. The option to record your own narration.

What we didn't like: the pages are very static (no animations, limited number of interactive objects).

Overall Score: 88/100

version reviewed: 1.1

reviewed:

Best for: Brain teasers, Attention & concentration, Eye-hand coordination, Interaction, Music & art, Thinking & problem solving, Understanding of the world

What it is: a set of 7 puzzles with dinosaurs.

What you do with it: Slide pieces in place to complete the puzzles (up to 15 pieces each). After the puzzle is finished listen to the dinosaurs name and the sound it makes and watch it move (a simple animation will be played).

What we liked: beautiful illustrations (the dinosaurs are funny, not scary!), easy navigation.

What we didn't like: the puzzles could be a little easier to assemble, especially for younger kids (now the pieces must be aligned rather precisely and sometimes it is difficult to make out which pieces are not in place). Only 7 puzzles.

What it is: interactive dinosaur encyclopedia with 15 dinosaurs.

What you do with it: choose a dinosaur, watch a short 3D animation (you can also try to 'play' with the dinosaur, e.g. when you tap on the screen theMonolophosaurus will try to 'bite' your finger or you can throw a fish to the Ornithocheirus). Tap on the icon below the screen for some text and visual data (basic facts, size & weight, time & place, fossil discovery, reconstruction/paleontologist notes).

What we liked: the concept, good quality 3d models and animations, sounds and sound backgrounds, relatively good educational value.

What we didn't like: only 15 dinosaurs (although as we understand the producers promise more updates in the future). Parental assistance necessary (for reading and explaining more complex terms). We wish there were better concepts for some of the animations and interactions: you get fighting Dimetrodons finally 'break' the screen of your device (can be scary for some), in the scene with Argentinosaurus you make the dinosaur perform a ... 'toilet routine' etc.). The interface could be easier to use.

Bottom line: a good app for all dinosaur fans (as long as you accept there are only 15 dinosaurs).
